The lot card is designed to serve as your master file (5” x 8”). In the smallest of operations it is often the only file. It is generally filed by section (if your cemetery has more than one section), then by block (or rows) and then by lot. It is strongly recommended that a card be made FOR EVERY LOT in your cemetery including the lots not sold. By so doing you have a complete record of every lot including the number of graves in each lot. Twenty years from now anyone can quickly obtain an inventory of unsold lots as well as unused graves in lots that have been sold.
